Outbreak of typhoid fever and viral hepatitis has been reported in the internment camps in Vavuniyaa, according to health authorities sources. Sources in the camps said the situation has worsened over the last couple of days.

More money offered for resettling Tamils in Lanka
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is willing to give more funds, besides the $100m which India has already pledged, for resettlement of around 300,000 civilians displaced by the conflict in Sri Lanka, External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said yesterday.
‘Women for Justice’ launched by Tamil women in Sydney
A social justice group, Women for Justice was launched yesterday night at a dinner titled ‘Ahimsai’ at Balmain to raise awareness about the atrocities faced by Tamil women at the hands of the Sri Lankan state at present and over the past 60 years.
The group formed by concerned Australian women aims to advocate for the rights and dignity of Tamil women in the war-torn North-Eastern provinces of the island of Sri Lanka who have been traumatised by sexual abuse, torture, forced prostitution and discrimination at the hands of the Sri Lankan government.
SCOPP defunct from today: APRC to find new facilitator
The Secretariat for Co-ordinating the Peace Process (SCOPP) which is to wind up its activities 31 July will no longer facilitate the All Party Representative Committee (APRC) to conduct its meeting from 1st August.
“We have to look for a new organization to facilitate our activities such as seeking arrangements to conduct future meetings”, APRC Chairman and Minister of Science and Technology, Professor Tissa Vitharane told media.
5000 Dengue patients registered during this month
Information reveals, 5000 Dengue patients are only registered during this month. From the beginning of this year until July approximately 20,385 persons were affected by dengue, and out of this 223 persons died was stated. 35 dengue patients died in the Gampaha District. Information also reveals 26 persons had died in Colombo and 21 from Kegalle.

Asserting his nationalist credentials Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa has told all countries ‘ even if I call them friends’, that he is nobody’s stooge. ‘I will never be’, he declared in ringing tones ‘…all countries must realise that even if I call them friends, I am nobody’s stooge and never will be. I am a Sri Lankan nationalist’, the President said in an interview to an Indian journalist.
