All should unite against state terrorism

The main opposition and UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said his party will continue to safeguard the democratic rights of the people and will never allow state sponsored terrorism to replace LTTE terrorism. Speaking to trade union activists of Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya at party headquarters Sirikotha today (Tuesday), Mr. Wickremesinghe said that it was the responsibility of the government to abide by the rulings of the Supreme Court that establish people’s fundamental rights.

“But, government backed protestors prevented parliament members from entering Parliament this morning. Also, Sirasa media network was attacked by thugs this morning. The government is doing all these things to prevent meetings of people’s representatives and to silence the voice of the people.”

He said it is clear that not only media, trade unions are also target of the present government. “We should unite irrespective of party differences to safeguard democracy against these repressions”, he added.
