Jeyalalitha Advances her day long Fasting Protest in Support of Eelam Tamils to March 9th

Tamil Nadu (TN), the former Chief Minister, current opposition leader Ms. J. Jeyalalitha will be conducting famine protest on March 9th 2009 instead of March 10th originally announced date as PMK was granted permission for their protest to condemn Sri Lanka for killings of Tamils in Eelam, Indian central government and State government for not doing enough to stop this war against civilians and not calling for cease fire to save the Eelam Tamils.

Most Tamil Nadu political leaders including the TN CM, M. Karunanidhi welcomed the decision of Ms. Jeyalalitha to fight to halt the sufferings of Eelam Tamils and win their just rights.

Welcoming AIADMK supremo J Jayalalalithaa’s announcement that she would go on a hunger protest over the Sri Lankan issue, the PMK leader, Dr. Ramadoss, said: ‘It is a delayed move. However the Tamils in Sri Lanka will find it as a solace.’ Ramadoss also made it clear that his party would not take part in the protest.

She said that the famine protest will be taking place Tamil Nadu State Wide and she will be leading the famine protest in Chennai. She appealed to her supporters and party members Tamil Nadu state wide to participate in large numbers in the famine protest to save the Eelam Tamils. They are denied food, medicines, drinking water, other basic essentials and they are being under sustained attacks from the Sri Lankan forces from land, sea and air. She said the State government and the Central government both remains as mere spectators while these atrocities are committed against Tamil civilians in Eelam are un acceptable.

Thousands of lawyers, community organizations, TN film actors, actresses, technicians, directors and other people who are working in the film industry, politicians, and many other well wishers are going beyond their party affiliation taking part in the State wide and urging Center to stop the genocides of Eelam Tamils by Sri Lanka.
