The Secretary-General is very concerned about the escalating violence and loss of life in Sri Lanka, including mine attacks on soldiers and police and targeted killings of political activists. He notes that crucial talks between the Government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) are scheduled to take place from 19-21 April in Geneva under Norwegian facilitation.

The Canadian Tamil community is deeply shocked and saddened of the decision by our Canadian government to list the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) as a Terrorist organization under Bill C-36. The Canadian Tamil Congress, the representative organization of Canadian Tamils, considers this decision to be harmful as both the LTTE and the government of Sri Lanka are currently engaged in an internationally brokered peace process as equal partners.

The LTTE are freedom fighters declared none other than the Head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), Mr.Hagrup Haukland (he prefers not to use his military title – Brigadier). While Mr. Haukland was with the Defence Secretary Gothabaya Rajapaksa, he said that the

LTTE Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam are a not a terrorist organisation like Al Qaeda. He stated that they are Freedom Fighters.

Mr Ananthan Kanagaratnam, Chairman of Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) Denmark, has filed a complaint with the local police service with regards to false propaganda spread around by Mathi and Vathanan Kumarathurai. The Kumarathurai brothers who are also residents of Denmark have been at the forefront of a paramilitary group that is spreading rumours about TRO having links to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). TRO is a registered Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) carrying out humanitarian work in Sri Lanka and another 12 western states.

Demonstrating devotees of the Eelap Patheeswarar Hindu temple in Wembley, North-West London, called up on Rajasingham Jayadevan alias Undiyalaan, to publish the account details of their temple. The peaceful demonstration took place in front of the temple premises on the auspicious day of Friday, 07 April 2006.
