A bomb was recovered from in front of residence of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Jaffna district parliamentarian, MK Shivagilingam, in Colombo around 8.45 a.m. on Monday, according to website of Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Defence. A news was posted in the website that mentioned police and air force bomb disposal team acting on civilian information have found a parcel bomb at Jawattha, Colombo 05 on Monday morning.

Sri Lanka’s ceasefire monitors expressed deep concern that civilian casualties in the country's civil war have returned to the level set before a truce was signed five years ago. The Nordic ceasefire monitoring team said 49 civilians had been killed and 60 injured in violence from November 25 to 28, referring to two bomb attacks in the capital and aerial and ground attacks in rebel-held areas.

Tamils here are accusing the British government of fermenting Islamic terrorism in Sri Lanka while fighting a phoney war on terror in the Arab world. They are upset that, despite several complaints, British police have allowed an Islamic meeting to take place here next week. The agenda of the meeting includes discussions on strengthening the Jihad Group which has its bases in the east of Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan soldiers stationed in Thalai Mannar and further down the coast are snatching fishing boats from Tamil fishermen in the name of security, local civilians here complain. More than 70% of the residents here depend on fishing for their livelihoods. They say that the Sri Lankan military has imposed several restrictions on their livelihoods.

Just over 18,000 police and army personal have been deployed by the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry to run a security sweep of Colombo and surrounding areas. House to house searches were conducted and motorised vehicles were thoroughly combed in the combined search operations by the two forces during the weekend.

In his Heroes' Day address, LTTE Leader Velupillai Prabhakaran did not attempt to disguise his disappointment with the international community, or his contempt for the southern political parties, on their part in Sri Lanka's ethnic conflict. Sri Lankan special military and police squads are continuing to arrest Tamils across Sri Lanka, particularly in capital Colombo and in the districts in south, by conducting cordon and search operation. Tamil parliamentarians in Colombo on Sunday told media that the number of detainees has risen to 1,500 over the last 48 hours.
