vibrant opposition is absent in Sri Lanka today. Sri Lanka has never
witnessed such absence of an articulate, strong and vigorous opposition
in its political history.
While
military onslaughts are intensified in the north–east, there are human
rights violations in the whole island. The cost of living is increasing
making it unbearable for the people of this country.

Anura
Bandaranaike has once again demonstrated that the politics of the
south is the politics of clowns. Immediately after he was deprived of
his portfolio, Anura Bandaranaike exclaimed that he was glad that he
had come out of the fold of the ‘carnival of clowns’.

Vitharana, the Chairman of the All Party Conference has stated that he
was going to put forward proposals for power sharing. Maithiripala
Srisena, General Secretary of the SLFP has stated that his party would
present a political solution within two weeks.

JVP
has accused that although there is a mega cabinet, there is no Minister
to answer questions in Parliament. In fact Wimal Weerawensa, JVP
Parliamentary Group Leader, remarked in the House that the government
could appoint a Minister with an assignment merely to answer questions.

Although
53 ministries have been distributed among Parliamentarians in a mega
cabinet of 53 ministers, main ministries still lie with President
Rajapakse. It has also been revealed that most of the portfolios
allocated to ministers are without any meaningful powers.
