On 10 November 2006, yet another leading Tamil Member of the Sri Lankan Parliament was gunned down in Colombo by a supposedly ‘unknown’ gunman. This is a new Sri Lankan term which is synonymous with ‘The Armed Forces and their Paramilitaries who do their dirty work’. There are no ‘unknown gunmen’ as such.

It happened on Tuesday evening when the SL Navy vessels dared taunt the Sea Tigers at training off Nagarkovil area. The attack vessels of the Sea Tigers rushed to the spot when the Dvora Gunboats belonging to SL navy dared attacking the Tigers at training in their coastal waters.

Inconclusive conclusion of discussions in Geneva this time is a clear indication that the Sri Lankan government has not given up its war plan and there is absolutely no space given for the LTTE to compromise this side of their ultimate slogan, a Separate Tamil Eelam.

Exactly three months ago, seventeen humanitarian workers that belonged to a French NGO, Action Against Hunger, were brutally massacred allegedly by Sri Lanka government security forces at the organisation's Muttur office. Even three months after the incident, still no arrests have been made and the impunity prevails as usual. Eleven bodies of the slain were exhumed and transferred to Colombo on 18th October for an autopsy.

The abundance of fish stock in Mullaitivu seas has provided a life line to fisher families from littoral villages dotting 70km Mullaitivu coast stretching from Kokkilai in the south to Iranaipalai in the north. Sri Lanka Army (SLA) has occupied 13km of this coastline from Kokkilai to Nayaaru from 1985.
