The report deals with the crimes committed within the first half of this year in the whole of Sri Lanka. According to the report at least 547 civilians have been killed and 396 went missing in the Sri Lankan government controlled areas within this year.
The ralliers accused the Sri Lankan forces of harassing the journalist who expose the wrongdoings of the Sri Lankan authorities to the public. The protest was organized by the Sri Lanka Working Journalists Association, Sri Lanka Tamil Journalists Alliance, Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum, Federation of Media Employees Trade Unions and the Free Media Movement.The demonstration started at 12.30pm and lasted until 1.30pm Thursday.
The meeting is seen as a coalition building effort to topple the Mahinda Rajapakse government. According to reports the meeting between the one time political enemies took place at Ms. Chandrika Kumaratunga’s official residence and lasted for 45 minutes.
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam has launched sustained artillery and multi-barrel rocket fire towards the Thalladi military base in the North Western district of Mannar on Wednesday evening. The rebels have directed the attack since 4:30 pm on Wednesday evening and it has been continuing in early Thursday Morning according to civilian sources in the area.
The Pillayan faction is said to be holding and interrogating the killer of one of its associates, Pillayan sources told the Daily Mirror yesterday. It said the killing last morning was the result of an internal rift and was not carried out by the LTTE.
