Mannaar - Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and the Sri Lankan security forces (SF) clashed when SF troopers tried to advance into the LTTE heal Adampan area through Paalakulli area using tanks, heavy artillery and mortars on Sunday morning. LTTE repulsed the attacks and at least 10 SF troopers were killed and 20 SF troopers sustained severe injuries, according rebel sources in Mannaar.

A top Saudi official has asked the Sri Lankan government to appeal directly for a pardon to the family of the baby allegedly killed by a Sri Lankan maid. Prince Khaled ibn Sultan, assistant minister of defense and aviation for military affairs, made the comments during a meeting with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama on the sidelines of the Singapore Airshow 2008, which concluded last week.

Dr Jayadevan and his team of ten eminent persons have returned from a weeklong fact finding mission to Sri Lanka that included visits to some of the most volatile parts of the island. In the coming days, the team will submit an urgent report to the British parliament, lobbying for a United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission to be set-up in the island.

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa opened the Ramboda Tunnel on Saturday morning, a day ahead of the planned razzmatazz, due to security concerns, Sri Lanka police say. The tunnel, the longest in Sri Lanka, is located in Rambada in Nuwareliya. It was built with financial assistance from the Government of Japan.

Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) bombed the village of Oddusuddan on Saturday morning, causing injuries to two Tamil civilians. Half a dozen bombs dropped by SLAF jets landed in agricultural land, Tamileelam Police say.
