The death of Anton Balasingham is undeniably a great loss to the nation of Eelam. Yet, all Tamils are consoled by his death, considering the serious health problems he had. What we Tamils need to recognise today, is not his death but how he lived his life. Anton Balasingham could have relaxed in any western country and lived a life of leisure. Yet, he chose to go back to Eelam and give the best years of his life to the Tamil cause. His wife Adele, has written a wonderfully graphic account of how he had to leave the island to seek treatment for his diabetes and kidney problems, when the Sri Lankan, Buddhist government, refused to assist him in any way. The petty minds, that arrived at the inhuman decision, will also no doubt go when their time comes , but no one will remember them or when they go. Many Tamil men and women have given their lives for the Tamil cause, either as soldiers or as ‘Black Tigers’ who sacrificed their lives. Tamils of Eelam will always remember these distinguished men and women. They are always remembered on ‘Maha Virar’ day. A day that is sacred to all Eelam Tamils. There has been many a ‘Maha Virar’ day in London, where Anton Balasingham has been the principal speaker. But Anton Balasingham was no soldier, nor did he give up his life in battle. This does not mean that his life will not be remembered with equal reverence. Anton Balasingham chose to devote his life to Tamil freedom, at tremendous expense to his health. He chose the hard life despite concerns over his health. Though he did not lose his life in battle we will always remember Anton Balasingham as a ‘Maha Viran’ the Great Hero. All Eelam Tamils will always remember Anton Balasingham with gratitude. We are also grateful to Adele Balasingham for her staunch support to both the Tamil cause and as wife of Anton Balasingham. Both her writings and those of Anton Balasingham will stand the test of time. They will both, always retain an affectionate and special place in the Tamil mind. Set as favorite Bookmark Comments (12)

Bala Annai !!!, was one of the prominent believers of Ahimsa principles. Everybody knows that he spent some of his precious lifetime in colombo, and had the opportunity to easily witness the atocities committed against Tamil minority and humanity by the sinhalese. Although he believed in and started his freedom struggle following AHIMSA principles, later he soon understood that AHIMSA cannot be practised against sinhala demons (GoSL and its brutal forces). Hence, he later felt that it is through armed struggle, Tamils could easily teach a lesson to barbarians. This is why he joined hands with Tamil EElam forces. However, throughout his life, he spent all his time to bring awareness among the world population as to how Tamils of Ceylon undergo hardship under the sinhala regimes by way of being actively involved in jounalism, writing books, organising debates etc. It is sad that he lives no longer with us to see untold hardships undergone by Tamil Hindus and Christians of Ceylon being eradicated completely by Tamil Eelam Forces. The person who really serves the needy is the real servant of God. Let your SOUL find a peaceful rest under the LOTUS FEET of the ALMIGHTY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Hey, fake murali2!!!, I am sure you don't have pure Tamil blood circulating in your body, as Tamils know how to give due respect to a dead person irrespective of their political differences. I am sure that a sinhala coward is trying to throw mud while posing itself as Tamil. I urge all Tamils to forget your differences and stregthen our freedom struggle, so that we can quickly free the Tamils from the clutches of sinhala demon that kills thousands of Tamils everyday and uses food as the prime weapon. |
| Hey, fake murali2!! you are either a Sinhalease, here to bring false allegation or you are a disgrace to our Tamil Race. If you are sinhalease:i can try to understand your frustration because none of your Leader had earned so much Respect, support, and love among the population. If you are a Tamil: then you are a Virus which needs to be Eraced, dont worry we have a small group like you back home and you better stay way with your beloved Sinhalease in Srilanka When we Tamils have our Homeland Eelam!! |
|
I don't agree with Murali2 but it is people like Eshan & Tamoul who bring a bad name to us Tamils. In addition, there are others like Jay Jay, who constantly write idiotic comments in these columns. They all would do a lot of good to our community if they don't openly try to display that they are such idiots. The Tamil Community can not be represented by rouge leaders of LTTE who send their children to the UK to study while recruiting our Tamil kids by force to fight the war. |

READ PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You sinhala cowards!!!!. You started using Tamil names such as Shiva, Mursli2 and Jayram to throw mud onto the faces of Tamils. Who you are fooling around ???? You can fool the sinhalese, but not the Tamils. I understand that it is very difficult for you to show your real faces whilst writing the truth, hence the use of Tamil names. One sinhala coward used to write rubbish in this forum with the name "colombo/junior". I raised lots of reasonable questions to him, and as a result that character is dead as he hasn't be able to come up with reasonable answers - now the same person continues his "great" service for idots with the names SHIVA, Murali2 and Jayram. |
|
Hey fake Jayram (a sinhala coward)!!!! Look at the comment added by a sinhala coward with the Tamil name, Jayaram. How angry these sinhala extremists are with me, as I write the TRUTH. You sinhala cowards, if you have guts, show your real faces. I invite you to open up a constructive discussion wit me, provided you show your true sinhala face. At them same time, I urge the Tamil community not to get fooled by sinhala extremists. |
| I like how you Tamils blame the Sinhalese when it suit you. It's not new, that's how the history of this conflict has always been. Jayram must be an educated tamil who uses his brain to think unlike the majority of you idiots. |
|
why dont you sinhalease just...stop comenting here you can write your lying stories in lanka lies or Asian Shame stop talking badly about people who have passed away!learn to respect a dead person...how can i expect fom your race ..behaving like animals!! your religious leaders preech Hate, budha asked them to worship and spread his teachings and to go house to house for food. He never asked you to form JHU and activley engaging in politics.Monks defends Killings, how can your race be cured! nowonder you have nothing related to Buddhas teaching! In all our Tamils Harts we feel ashamed to call us Srilankans or hate to call us Srilankans. we are tamils from Eelam .Advise and teachings about our rights has been passed to our generations from great man like Dr. Anton Balasingham. Nations Voice. |
| "Jayram" is a second cousin of "Douglas Devanandha" and "Buddika" is a first cousin of "Douglas Devanandha". |
| Tamoul, We sinhalese have comment when you drag us in. You and your cronies did not like a fellow Tamil wrote and you were quick to blame us. How do you justify that? That's how most uneducated Tamils (and the Sinhalese) been throughout this conflict. So don't fart around writing bull shit just do some thing constructive to bring peace to the Srilankan Tamils and the Sinhalese. There will be no Eelam and just accept that. |
|
yes that's what i say we tamils need govern our TamilHomeland like we used to do in the past until 1833,side by side Eelam and Srilanka. We have seen changes Russia and GUS countries.korea divided in North korea& South Korea , North vietnam south vietnam, in past Germany, east germany west germany(remember they were same Race), east pakistan became bangladesch, india north west became pakistan. So this Island has only one option like in the past = TamilKingdom,Sinhlease Kingdom...it's tooooooo late to live together under one umbrella. we decided on divorce, we can not be represented by Sinhalease history and present policy have shown us enough! we stop with this conversation here, everything is been Talked about srilanka and eelam. |

Anton Balasingham dedicated his life for the liberation of Tamils in Eelam and Srilanka. He verywell articulated the social realities of Tamils and the legitimacy of Tamil nationality movement. With his diplomatic skills; he was able to bring the Eelam struggle to forefront in the international arena. On one side he was suffering with health and on otherside struggling for his ideals and aspirations of Eelam. I may not agree with methods of his struggle but there is no doubt in my mind about the legitimate aspirations of Tamils in Eelam. I may not agree with ideology but Balasinghams commitment to his people and to his cause is unquestionable. I express my deep sympathy to the Tamils and extend solidarity to the Eelam nationality struggle. Suryakiran (Not a Tamil but a Human being) |
