Colombo, Sri Lanka: The Editorial of Sudar Oli of April 8th condemning the killing of V.Vigneswaran, the President of the Trincomalee People’Front states that he had paid a great price for championing the cause of the Tamils of Trincomalee with great courage.

Before we can recover From the shock of the cruel murder of Sudar Oli Trincomalee Correspondent S.S.R (Suhirtharajan) who exposed suppression, and injustice bravely with his pen, there is yet another tragedy in the same manner in Tricomalee.

Tricomalee Tamil Front President Vigneswaran was shot and killed in high security Zone in Trincomalee for resisting attempts to de-merge the North and East and for demanding to end racism in Trincomalee. He paid supreme price for his courageous resistance to Sinhala Bhuddist extremism.

Whenever there were moves towards colonization in Trincomalee District, to deny Tamils their employment opportunities or deny their language rights, there was Vigneswaran with facts and figures to counteract. He actively participated in Pongu Thamil programmes, presided and read out declarations. His contribution was great in ensuring the election of all members of ITAK to Trincomalee Urban Council in the recent Local Government Polls.

He has been killed in the same manner Parliamentarian Joseph Pararajasingam was killed. The Prices that they have paid will be a great impetus for the Tamils to march along the struggle for their inalienable rights with greater determination.
