Colombo, Sri Lanka: A think tank has been nominated to advise the committee nominated to draft a final constitution for the resolution of the ethnic issue. This appointment has won the praise by many.

But it is unfortunate that not one Tamil is on the Advisory Board. Similarly the elected members of the political party representing the Tamil people of the North-East were also not invited to participate in the proceedings of the all party conference convened to discuss the Tamil issue.

Any resolution of the issue without the participation of the representatives of the Tamils would mean forcing a solution on the minority Tamils.

Tamil struggle that started non –violent has now become an armed struggle fighting oppressive measures. Tamil struggle is internationalised today. It is the grievance of the Tamil people that every successive government has failed to take any meaningful step to solve it.

Instead the governments summon all party conferences to drag the issue to avoid commitments. Tamils wonder how the hard-liners in the South will permit any final solution.

A translation of the Editorial in Virakesari,a Tamil national Daily, based in Colombo
