Colombo, Sri Lanka: The disasters caused by violence that has become intensified are many. Last Saturday, following the clashes between the Navy and the LTTE in the sea off Mannar, there had been several attacks on the civilian population in several areas in Mannar. The order of the day is that destruction and horror are let loose.
Although the whole world condemns acts of violence in very strong language, violence does not seem to subside. On the contrary violence intensifies. One gets the impression that the situation is getting out of control. Since the parties are not concerned about the sufferings of the people, anti social elements seem to take advantage of the situation and destroy peace. The security situation appears to be worsening at a time when the international community has expressed grave concern over increasing violence in the country. The people of the country, the civil movements and the political parties must look for a way out before it is rather too late.
