The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has stopped inquiries on missing persons as it felt that it would lead to a payment of compensation to victim’s families. Human right activists are perturbed over this decision of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka.

In view of the fact that members to this commission were appointed in violation to the provisions of the constitution. They feel that this body is interested in protecting the government instead of protecting the Human Rights of the Victims.

AHRC has condemned that the Sri Lankan human rights commission has faltered in abandoning the probes into rights and abuses AHRC has pointed out that the Commission has a commitment to inquire in to the infringement of the fundamental rights and to make appropriate redress including compensation to the victims.

The Sri Lankan Human Rights Commission cannot in any way justify their decision to abandon the probes into Human right violations and abuses in Sri Lanka, a country which is a signatory to the Human Rights Charter. All political parties and civil societies must exert pressure on the human rights commission of Sri Lanka to re start the inquiries and ensure redress to the victims’ families.
