International community provided a lot of assistance to the victims of Tsunami but this has not reached the victims in the North-East. As far as the Tsunami victims of the North-East are concerned, they have been further affected very badly by the war situation. As they were trying to recover from the ill effects of Tsunami, they were made to suffer by the war situation in the North-East again.
The people in the coastal areas of the North-East have been displaced both by the Tsunami and by the war situation. Most of them are displaced within the country while some fled to India by boat.. There is another unfortunate development in the North-East, where Non –governmental Organizations have decided to leave the country fearing threats to the lives of their employees. We cannot forget the great service that the NGOs have been doing in the North-East. These NGOs provided houses to the victims. They provided help for self employment. They created a sense of confidence among the affected people. The government must provide housing schemes to the affected people. It must create an atmosphere for the people in the coastal areas to restart occupation. We appeal to all parties to give priority to the problems of the refugees.
