The general view among all sections of the society is that humanitarian issues must be given priorities at the Geneva talks. It is because the people in the North-East have faced numerous problems during the last two decades.
The people have been displaced since the implementation of high security zone in the north.
To add to this problem, violence has been unleashed on them. There were other economic problems such as economic ban, scarcity of goods and medicines, ban on fishing and unemployment. Finally they n face transport problem following the closure of A9 highway.
Tamil National Alliance in a document signed by 22 Parliamentarians has appealed that humanitarian problem in the North-East must be prioritized at the Geneva talks.
International Red Cross Society has also appealed that the humanitarian problem should be given priority on the agenda of the Geneva talks and to find solution to them.
The displaced people, who live as refugees, crave for relief and peace through Geneva talks. Whether their hopes will be realized or shattered depends on both parties!
