The Geneva peace talks between the government and the LTTE have failed without bringing the desired results. Many people were optimistic that there can be progress in the peace efforts following the talks.

But, this failure was not at all unexpected. Prior to the departure from Sri Lanka ,S.P.Thamilselvan, Political Wing Leader, categorically stated that they have no faith in the talks and that they were proceeding in deference to the wishes of the international community.

Now the question before us is what role that the international community is going to play in the aftermath of the abortive Geneva talks.

The talks did not succeed because a consensus could not be reached between the two parties on solving the humanitarian problems of the Tamil people. There was also the dispute over the implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement.

The 30% of the peninsula is acquired by the security forces under the pretext of high security zone. 60000 troops occupy the peninsula for aggression. The A9 high way, the only road access to Jaffna, has remained closed for more than 21/2months. As result the people live as though they were in an open prison. That is why there is a humanitarian crisis in the Jaffna peninsula.

The A9 high way was opened for access after a fierce war for 8 years following the signing of the Ceasefire Agreement. That was one of the benefits that were afforded to the Jaffna civilians by the CFA. Now even that benefit has been denied within a period 4 1/2 years. The result is, now, there is human suffering in the peninsula.

The LTTE delegates have exposed the government to the world that it’s adamant not to reopen the A9 highway even on humanitarian grounds. They have also pointed out that the government has acted in breach of the CFA by closing the route. They have also spotlighted that the reasons that the government gives to support their stand are not satisfactory.

It is by honouring the Ceasefire Agreement fully and by strengthening the Sri Lanka monitoring mission that we can avoid a war and avert human disaster. This was the essence of the two demands made by the LTTE at the recent Geneva Peace Talks.

Is the international community going to be silent over this issue or is it going to raise its voice for justice? That is what is upper most in our minds. Tamils hope that the international community will not falter!

What can they do? Fundamentally, they (IC) rather see GOSL give concessions to a weakened LTTE. That way LTTE is seen as receiving through the genorosity of the GOSL (like a X'Mas present) and not taking what they want because they were the stronger party. Apart from that it also seems that some of the IC have designs on the country. Until thousands of LTTE fighters are taken out of the equation the IC will tolerate what the GOSL is doing. Did they not bless the P'Toms? Most of the money that was given to that country's victims were from ordinary people. They do not even know what happened to the money they have donated. They will keep visiting the South and feel good about hat they have done. The only time there is widespread coverage of suffering is when soldiers are killed, (Habarana). Thye do not hear about the Tamils made to starve, children prevented from going to school, ply their trade or even catch fish, their staple diet. They do not hear about the abductions and the ransom demands taking place all over that country including Colombo, their holiday resort. Freedom struggle is not acceptable unless they say so. the qustion is, are the Tamils waiting for their approval?

The only avenue left open for the tamil nation on the aftermath of the Geneva 2 failure is to press forward to free the tamil home lands by chasing away the occupying forces out of the tamils homes and lands and declare the unilateral declaration of independance of tamil Eelam which has all necessary formulations to be a state by itself which the tamils desire to live under. Tamils have totally rejected any dealing with the sinhala nation as their governors but they despise the sinhala agression on the contrary. The tamils want to have their self-rule totally independant of the sinhala aggression.

International Community has failed in many ways to ensure, the implementation of CFA 2002 by Lankan Goverment. After CFA 2002 having both parties as equal partners representing the People of Tamil Homeland and People of Srilanka. I blame the International community for having created a situation where war and injustice killings and dissapearance have returned to daily life for the People of North & East. Countrys Banning the LTTE after 2002 Ceasefire Agreement, Canada , European Union. It has shown clearly to Lanka Goverment ,(play the game not to recognise as equal partner anymore) so the main stream political partys who were against any settlements for Tamils had a easy game to destablise the Cease Fire Agreement. The European Union biggest mistake to ban LTTE as they were even monitoring the Peace as members of SLMM
( EU peace monitior were asked to leave) gave Lankan Gov the oppertunity to start new direction to abolish the effort which Norway Mr. Erick Solheim created through out the CFA 2002. International community pushed both partys back to attend Geneva peace Talk but the outcome is zero not even to prevent a Humanitarian crises for 600 000 people in Jaffna ,International Community is aware of present situation through International Redcross,Unicef and other non Goverment Organisation. What can International community do?? Nothing appart from FREEZING the promised Financial help to Lankan Goverment !!!!

Even If the International Community is not ready to implement such Action!!!?

I and my Family have started to avoid buying any products which comes from Srilanka.
Starting from Food items to avoid travelling on Srilankan Airlines. I ask the rest of us nearly 1 Million exile Tamils to boycot Srilankan Economy(no investment, buying propertys in colombo, saving accounts, avoid Traveling,etc..) to express our support towards the 600 000 people of North who are kept in Open Prison, where SL Gov wants to controll even if they should EAT or NOT on daily basis!!!
