The air strikes in areas that are not controlled by the government cause a horror resulting in the unfortunate deaths of infants, children, women and elderly people.

It has been pointed out that the air strikes are on the citizens of the country . In the air attack on school in Kilinochi 61 students were killed. Thereafter in the air attack in the neighbourhood of Kilinochi hospital, five members of the same family were killed.

Now, the attack on Vigneswara Vithyalayam at Vaharai in Batticola caused the deaths of more than 50 Tamil refugees who had been housed there. More than a hundred were injured.

These unfortunate people were displaced from Trincomalee following air strikes there. It is a great concern that violence is let loose on these people merely because they happen to be Tamils.

That these people who were trapped there without adequate food medicine and with no other option, were killed in such a cruel manner hurts every humanitarian minded citizen. Ordinary citizens had not been killed in this magnitude during the war in the past. The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission has strongly condemned the attack in Vaharai.

It must be realized that the crisis in the country cannot be resolved by causing starvation, air strikes, attacks or any types of violence.
