The people demand that the government should take meaningful steps to immediately halt all acts of violence in the North-East. It is reported that two young men were shot dead in Anaipanthy on Sunday. The deceased are identified as Ravirajeevan(14 years) and Selvakumar(23) of Knodavil East.
They had been abducted from their home by gunmen at 11pm on Saturday. Later they were found lying dead on Sunday morning. People express concern that such violence is ensuing in the North-East.
It is the moral duty of the government to stop such killings and create an atmosphere conducive to lead a normal life.
In the meantime the people n the North suffer from scarcity of food, medicine and other essential commodities. They also face price hike which the ordinary man cannot afford. It is said that food is dispatched by ships from Colombo and India.
Ultimately, despite all these talks, nothing tangible is done. People there face starvation. The situation is worsening and not easing. That is the sad tale of Jaffna.
The main reason is that even the items dispatched by ships are inadequate to meet the requirements of the people. At the same time, people have to queue up early in the morning and wait for long hours to get their share. Sometimes, despite their waiting, they are unable to get their due share.
The government must solve these problems and help the people in the North-East to live in the same way as the people in the other areas of the country.
