Medical tests prove that most of the people infected with the virus fever suffer from Chikungunya . 60% of the people who have virus fever in Colombo, Jaffna, Batticola, Mannar, Kalmunai and Puthalam suffer from Chicken Guniya.

Colombo Municipal council has issued leaflets on precautions. One of the preventive measures is to dispense with chances of the rain water stagnating in one place. It is essential to keep the environment clean.

Institutions and individuals are warned by the Colombo Municipal Council that any body who does not comply with the directives of the council will be prosecuted with a seven day notice. Health Minister Sripala de Silva has stated that there is a duty cast not only on the government and the local body but also on the people.

As far as Colombo and its suburbs are concerned, there is lethargy in clearing the garbage by the Municipal Council administration. This has been the case for quite a long time. The government must ensure that the local government bodies act accordingly.

We reiterate that the local government bodies of the country must attend to this matter with dedication.
