Abductions and disappearances in Colombo city and its suburbs are rampant. Violence continues to escalate in the North-East. Last week Ravindranath, the vice chancellor of the eastern university was abducted. A number of Tamil traders and Tamil civilians have been abducted in recent months. According to available information, so far 50 persons have been listed. Some have been released and some have been killed, while the whereabouts of the others are unknown. President Rajapakse has been concerned about human rights for the last 20 years. When Sinhalese youths were killed and abducted during the JVP uprising, Rajapakse voiced for them and pleaded for human rights in Geneva. Therefore, we request President Rajapakse to take immediate measures to stop this sort of violence. The abductions and disappearances in Colombo and suburbs were discussed at the working committee of the UNP. It was decided that Wicremasinghe, the Opposition Leader, should raise this issue at his meeting with President Rajapakse. The human rights violations such as abductions, disappearances, killings and violence in this country have affected the public image of Sri Lanka in the eyes of the world. The international community views the human rights violations in Sri Lanka with grave concern. Therefore the government must take urgent measures to save the country from blame and build up the public image of our island. Mr. Rajapaksha does not have enough political knowledge to rule the blessed country. He was counting on JVP to give full support for him to be a president. But JVP has other ideas. They were using MR to achieve their goal which was lost during the insurrection. Knowing this MR has got himself surrounded by his own kith and kin to protect himself. But JVP is well established within the armed forces and is doing what ever they want. MR does not have the power to prevent them from doing so. So the couintry's image will be tarnished very badly soon.MR is also unable to keep the promises that he gave to the Internatinal community. IT is a doomed day scenario for the blessed Lanka. |

If the Executive President can't or unable to stop these abductions and killings why the hell he is holding the office as a president. He is scared of the JVP, JHU, Army, navy, Airforce and his subordinates like Keheliya Rambukwela, Prasad Samarasinghe, Sarath Fonseka. It is the right time for him to vacate his office as president and allow somewone who can do the job. Please do the right thing and don't allow these unfortunate things to happen for ever. |
