Tony Blair, British Prime Minister, has urged that the Ceasefire Agreement of 2002 must be fully implemented in order to pursue the peace efforts. He expressed these views in response to the question raised on the floor of the House of Commons. He has also assured that Britain could offer assistance for the resolution of the problems.

British Premier has only echoed the views of the international community that the country could not have been plunged in the present situation if the CFA had been implemented properly. Due to the failure of the implementation of the CFA in the right sprit, there has been loss of life human tragedies, human suffering and human rights violations in the country. Reports say that 154,000 people have been displaced from Batticaloa.

The plight of the Batticaloa refugees has been raised at the UN. John Homes, Deputy Secretary General for UN Human Affairs, expressed grieve over the displacement of 1000’s of people from Batticaloa. UN has appealed to the international community to extend humanitarian assistance to the Batticaloa refugees.

International community including Britain must take certain effective measures and efforts to resolve the national conflict in Sri Lanka.
