The refugees in the east live in a pathetic condition. They live in refugee camps. Appropriate and timely relief and assistance have not reached the displaced people.
There are reports that the refugees suffer from many communicable diseases including chickenpox. As the number of the refugees have gone up to more than 100,000, their can never be any delay or apathy in providing assistance to them.
Even non governmental organizations seem to be insensitive to the problems of the displaced people.
Dr.Ramadas, the leader of the Pattali Makkal Katchie, has appealed to Indian central government to rush food provisions to the starving displaced people in the Batticaola.
In a statement issued by him, Dr,Ramadas appeals to India to extend its assistance in the form of food provisions and medicines to the Batticaloa refugees urgently before any other country could do that.
Dr.Ramadas has only echoed the feelings of the Sri lankan Tamils. It is the expectations of the Tamil people of Sri Lanka that India must act at this hour of their despair.
