Pope Benedict, in his traditional Easter message called on Sri Lankan warring parties to come back to negotiations to end violence. Pope made the appeal in his Easter Message at St.Perter’s Squre. Pope stressed that Sri Lanka‘s need of the moment is peace. We quote him: “In Sri Lanka, only a negotiated solution can put an end to the conflict that causes so much blood Shed.” The human rights violations in Sri Lanka have caused damage to the international image of the country. It is unfortunate that the Tamil people have to live as refugees in their own country. Pope has quite rightly appealed to put an end to this human tragedy. AS the pope himself has suggested, violence must be brought to an end and all must come forward to find a negotiated settlement. Meanwhile, the LTTE has offered to commence peace talks if the Ceasefire Agreement is fully implemented. They made this offer when the SLMM held talks with S.Pulithevan, Director LTTE Peace Secretariat at Killinochchi. It must be recalled that there was peace when the CFA was honoured and fully implemented and peace started to totter only when the CFA became a dead letter. When the entire world talks of Peace, Sri Lanka cannot move along a different direction. It may not be prudent to do so. International Community is concerned that Tamils are oppressed and that their rights are denied. We appeal to all parties to the problem to create an atmosphere for peace talks.

Pope Benedict's call to end violence will only fall in the deaf ears of the present Srilankan government. They dont respect the views of wise people because morons dont have such capacity. His message, ââ?¬Å?In Sri Lanka, only a negotiated solution can put an end to the conflict that causes so much blood Shedââ?¬? is nothing but a mere echo of the world leaders, who have been saying the same thing over and over again. To pay heed to such advice and to understand that no good comes out of mass murdering innocent people need leaders with vision and not butchers like Rajapakse or his brother Gotabaya. Srilanka currently enjoys a leadership of tyranny. State terrorism is the order of the day. Therefore the Pope's words are as ineffective as the spineless UN body who can only mumble a word or two to stop the crimes committed and can do nothing. If the International community really wants to do something to stop the bloodshed, they should condemn the GoSL of its terrorist acts and at the same time stop all forms of support and start imposing sanctions on the Srilankan government. |

The catholic churh with a chequered past are only able to call for peace. What are vatican emisaries doing in the North & East of Sri Lanka ? "Blowing hot and cold with the same breath" with hidden agendas. Announcing the sighting of the weeping blessed Virgim mary in different areas of N&E and acting as the messenger and the signall man for LTTE activities. The catholic church was establised in SL around 1505 and waits till 2007 to call for peace in the Land. Jay. why don`t the IC for a chage round up all ltte activists, propaganda bearers, extortionists in their countries to stop the bloodshed. IC has been gullible for most of the time but not all the time. What is happening to the LTTE in France? getting out of hand? Why they move to Switzerland because that Govt does not care for others suffering as long as money is brought in whether it is dirty or not. They dabbled in dirty money during world wat II as well. So, who cares money speaks. Why must they care when overseas tamils do not care about the sufferings of tamils living in SL but think seperatists war is the option. At least the present GOVT have stood up to the LTTE whereas LTTE was expecting a walkover... You want the seperatism, fight to get it and let it take preceedence over the suffering tamil masses in SL. The choice is up to the tamil people & not the IC and specially the Pope & the vatican who use their good offices to shed crocodile tears over the people of SL. If they desire to be honest, let them lesten to Ananda Sangaree, R.Jayadevan from wembly and the likes........ |
