There have been harbingers from the international community in order to revive the peace efforts. There are reports that Tony Blair, British Prime Minister, has written to President Rajapakse that his government is prepared to take initiatives to recommence talks with the facilitation of Norway.
He has also indicated to Sri Lanka that he is prepared to send two envoys to Colombo to explore the possibilities of such initiatives.
Mean while Richard Boucher, US Deputy State Minister, is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka to persuade the Lankan government to return to the negotiating table, whereas Lalith Weeratunga President’s Secretary has proceeded to India with a letter from the President to Indian Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh.
In the back ground of three air strikes by the LTTE and the presentation of SLFP proposals, the international community has shown greater interest in resolving the Lankan national issue. It all depends on how the government is going to respond to these offers by the international community.
The international community, which has remained dormant for quite some time over the development in Sri Lanka, has now come forward to take some initiatives. Sri Lankan government is accused by the international community for the increase in human rights violations. The government is compelled to be accountable to this worsening situation.
