The extremist forces in the south are perturbed over the concern shown by the international community regarding the human rights violations in the country. Following Britain, America has also expressed serious concern over the serious human rights violations in the country.

The south is disturbed that Britain proposes to invite the representatives of Sri Lankan government, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and Norway for a summit meeting in Britain with the view to bring the violence and the human rights violations to an end.

There was a demonstration opposite the British high Commission against the proposals by Britain. The demonstration and the opposition against Britain is similar to the ones that were organized against Norway earlier for its role in the peace process.

It is clear from the manner of demonstration and the slogans at the demonstration that they don’t want the international community to show any concern over the peace process and the human rights violations in the country.

Whatever it is, there is a growing concern over this by the international community now than it had ever been before.

Such demonstrations bring disrepute to the government and the people of this country. If this unhealthy trend continues Sri Lanka will be isolated from the international community.

As a legitimate and democratically elected government, Sri Lankan state cannot disregard the concerns of the international community. All sections including the Sri Lankan government must strive hard to put an end to human rights violations.
