The religious festival seasons of the Madu church has begun. Both the government and the LTTT have agreed for ceasefire during the religious season.
Rev.Rayapuu Josef, the Bishop of Mannar, has revealed the good tidings of the agreement for a ceasefire. It is a great solace to the people of all faiths. Although this matter has been under discussion between both parties for the last one month, the Defence Ministry and the LTTE high command in Killinochoch, have given its undertaking in writing, according to the Bishop of Mannar.
It is a really a salutary step on the part of both parties to have agreed in this manner for the religious festival at the Madu Church, which has a history dating back to 450 years.
An atmosphere of peace is important for worship, for the economic life of the people and for the peaceful life of the people. People are irked over the violence in the country. They are worried about the human rights violations such as abductions and killings.
In this background, people are happy that it has become possible to stop war in the Madu area during the festive season. We hope that all sections of the society will come forward to give a new life to the CFA in the same spirit.
