Peace loving people are frustrated over the postponement of the All Party Representative Conference indefinitely. The Tamils too are frustrated over the abrupt halt of the APRC.

It was expected that the proposals of the APRC can be the basis for a political settlement of the national crisis and for putting an end to the military approach. But such expectations have been shattered with the abrupt halt of the APRC proceedings. Even the representatives of the Muslim Parties are disturbed over this development.

The operation of the extremist forces is the cause for this abrupt halt. It has been the history of this country that all efforts for a political settlement have been defeated at every turn of history. This has raised the question as to what the commitment of the government is on this matter.

Right from the beginning, the JVP and the JHU that represent Sinhala, Buddhist extreme forces have been voicing against the political settlement. These racist forces will never agree for devolution of power or a federal solution. Any decisions taken to appease extremist forces cannot be healthy to resolve this problem.

Therefore all parties must forget petty differences and rally together and resolve this problem. The government must act with determination to resolve this problem.

I think that a non-violent approach to seek an end to the conflict will be the most efficient. My rights were violated in Jaffna, but I ran away and feel guilty: - By Sunimal Alles. This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

I started the research to find out how, why and where militants are created, soon after I was beaten up for NO REASON by police officers when buying bread from a Singhalese bakery, while on holiday in Jaffna, Sri Lanka during the week of 25 April 1975. Though I complained to higher-ranking officers in Colombo, I was dismissed as a youth who was STUPID and had no right to question the ââ?¬Å?policies and proceduresââ?¬? of the national police force. I accepted this and kept silent for 32 years and 5 months. I am GUILTY today for not ââ?¬Å?making my voice heardââ?¬? and for not seeking legal advice on the manner I could have taken those who beat me up to court for the injustice that was done to me, as I see now that my action could have been the catalyst to prevent the war in Sri Lanka. Since I was discontent I left Sri Lanka to design and implement programs in other countries.

I came back and again offered my services to the education ministry in Sri Lanka in April 1988, to set up a system where we could identify the Natural Talents of children and youth in order that all children know what they will be doing (Careers) soon after their secondary school (Ols) and there would be near zero unemployment. But I left Sri Lanka again as the director of education sent me a letter saying that I could not meet with the minister and that the programs I offered were being covered by the education system. On September 8, 2007, we interviewed many young people and found that they were CLUELESS about their talents and what they really like to do in their lives. So this shows how efficient the programs of career guidance in schools have been to date.

Should I run again and just forget about Sri Lanka as there are Stupid leaders who do not see that Peace can make more money than war in a splendid land like ours. How many tourists will come running if there is peace to Sri Lanka all year round, how many industries will restart and how many people will have jobs. Sri Lanka is a goldmine for creating wealth, maybe that is why we do not have a chance and "Foreigners" and their "Boot Lickers" want Sri Lankans to be poor so that they will rape our country by putting "Artificial issues" and make people believe that there are issues. For instance, how will some of these organizations and NGOs justify their presence if there are no issues. I am tired of Seeing Sri Lankans being the pawns of greedy and "Jobless" persons.

We are being taken for a ride by those who wish to destroy us. Delays in processes is a way to make money for a few "Affluent" people and "Facilitators of peace"

Sri Lanka will continue to degrade, and become a failed state where Sri Lankans remain poor and ââ?¬Å?Dependentââ?¬?, ruled by the thoughts and rationales of the power hungry, those who have underlying agendas, and those who make money by maintaining us in ââ?¬Å?destitutionââ?¬?, making us believe that we need ââ?¬Å?Importedââ?¬? ideas and goods, unless we become aware of the truth, become mindful, awaken, and become active rapidly. We need to radically change our thinking patterns, change our ââ?¬Å?Natureââ?¬? and identify and reject those who prevent us from moving forward (murderers of our thoughts, spirit/will), set aside our differences, re-awaken our entrepreneurial and patriotic spirit, stop ââ?¬Å?sellingââ?¬? our country to outsiders and making commissions from harmful purchases, kill our egos and give room for ideas/thoughts of other Sri Lankans, identify and polish our natural talents/strengths, pool our resources, UNITE, realize that ââ?¬Å?Every Sri Lankan needs every other Sri Lankan for us to thrive and become strongââ?¬? and work together to transcend Sri Lanka from what it is today to a ââ?¬Å?Rich and prosperousââ?¬? nation. Hi, Sunimal

I know how you feel. But people like you are an endangered species in Sri Lanka. What purpose the education serves in Sri Lanka. Bringing out talents? You must be joking. In the unlikely event of increase of talented people surfacing in this country, don't you realize that it will bring about productivity that will curb dollar projects and imports in which the gravy is enshrined? Do not even think about the anti-social activities of this nature. Look at our perfect education system and policies. None other than the highest court had to intervene in the LKG entrance! And at what price? Look athe Year 5 scholarship examination! the parents are preparing their children for this accursed examination from the day the children are born only to get the dreams of over 90% of the parents chattered and the 90% of those children begin to think very very negative and give up on a whole lot of good things in life! Are we surprised that we are turning out morons, thugs, murderers, drug peddlers not to mention the present type of politicians in the process? I am not! I am beginning to hope that a dictator who, at least would maintain the 'status quo' without furhter damage would take over this country and run it for a while.

Thank you Kingsly, However, we have to replace HOSTILITY with HOSPITALITY to initiate the process and encourage all parties to come to the table and create peace rapidly. The whole country is already degraded with rampant dishonesty, high unemployment/underemployment, low levels of social and moral values and the poor increasing. This is because; we have very few honest, professional, talented, creative and ââ?¬Å?Activeââ?¬? leaders that can develop efficient programs in every area and domain (Even in the area of resolving conflict and PEACEBUILDING) that need to function efficiently to take our country forward. The discouragement faced by the few honest people (Less than 1% who do what they say), the incapacity of families and communities to interact and think through solutions, the blockage of their willpower and initiatives and also the inability of having access to identify and develop the talents of children, youth and young adults (Who were children at one time) have retarded the development of the minds and skills of everyone. The rumors of intimidations have also killed the spirit and initiative of honest persons. If we continue to not seek solutions, it is all common persons (Including children) in the country that will be affected and we will have a failed state very soon. Why do not our leaders (In the west, south, east, north and central) of Sri Lanka analyze the benefits to be gained (by exploiting the natural resources of Sri Lanka -talents and entrepreneurial power of people for manufacture- high agricultural production (by making it dignified and attractive to youth to engage in the sub-sector through mechanization and incentives such as clean environments and high salaries) ââ?¬â?? hospitality and attractions to lure tourists and developing products and services for them ââ?¬â?? Aurveda- Meditation ââ?¬â?? Wellness and others) if there is total peace. The leaders may even win the Nobel Prize for peace. War will only ruin Sri Lanka and all children of ALL ethnic groups and religious affiliations (Except the few who can go abroad). Let us UNITE and analyze the advantages of POP (Power of Peace) over the POW (Power of War) and eradicate everything that is preventing us from becoming a great and prosperous nation. Let us collect totally Honest, Non-Violent, and Neutral (Without religious, political, ethnic, fame, family or affluence affiliations) persons and set up ââ?¬Å?Activeââ?¬? concerned citizens (CC) groups in every community in Sri Lanka, analyze the challenges and options, reflect on solutions and put forward our recommendations (Professionally and in an unbiased manner) to the leaders to move forward rapidly. If not, we may see the Arrival of DOOMSDAY soon. We cannot expect peace to arrive if we ââ?¬Å?passivelyââ?¬? express it at gatherings, places of worship, prayers or at manifestations and later go home and watch television images of ourselves manifesting, have a good meal, protect our families and go to sleep. Very few honest, peace loving and neutral citizens (Who do not have underlying agendas) would also like to be seen or heard at demonstrations and manifestations. So we should not expect peace to come automatically, and intimidating current leaders will only delay the process.
