In addition to the political and the economic crises faced by the people in the north-east, there are killings that are shocking. In Jaffna alone 11 persons have been killed by unidentified gunmen within the last week. So also killings continue in the east.
People are killed with impunity, with no regard whether they are men or women, children or teenagers young or old. This only indicates the unhealthy trend in the country. This has brought discredit to the country.
At Ottamavadi in Batticalo, Senathrajah Thiyagachandren(55), an employee of the Valachenai paper factory, was killed by unidentified gunmen. He was an elder brother of TNA Batticaloa Parliamentarian S.Jeyananthamoorthy. That was in the east.
In the north, an aid worker was killed on Aug 20th. He is identified as Sivasamy Sritharan of Puuliankudal Kyts and another was injured in the incident.
This incident only confirms the views expressed by John Holmes, UN Under for Humanitarian affairs that Sri Lanka is one of the dangerous places for aid workers.
We must put an end to such meaningless killings in the country.
