COPE has exposed the fraud that existed in 26 government institutions. In its second report it exposed corruption in another 20 public enterprises. Addressing the Parliament, Wijedasa Rajapakse, the Chairman of the COPE has given details of the fraud in public enterprises. Corruption is abuse of power for personal gains in any sector.

The only way to minimize corruption is to implement the findings of the COPE. Wijedasa stated that the powers are unable to decide on those responsible for defrauding Rs150 million from public enterprises, although a citizen found guilty of theft of 4 coconuts in Mahiyanganqa was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment and suspended for 4 years.

He explained that corruption within this country has reached unprecedented levels.
