Every time there is a military operation, people are displaced. They become refugees. They suffer unbearable hardships. Following the military operations in Batticaloa, a large number of people were displaced. Although some refugees have been resettled, most of them lead uncomfortable lives.
Following military operations in the north in the past, the displaced people still live in other parts of the country. Some have fled to Tamil Nadu. Due to the prevailing situation, they cannot be resettled.
Due to the military operations, innocent people lose not only their lives. They lose their limbs. Their houses are destroyed. Their belongings are lost. The displaced people live in schools and other public buildings.
It has been the curse of the people of north and the east that they are made refugees over night. Finally they depend on government relief. Relief given to them is inadequate. Relief doesn’t reach them regularly.
Following military operations in Silavathurai in Mannar and sequel to the directive by the security forces to leave the areas immediately, the people are displaced. The displaced people are in Murngan and Nanatan areas.
In such a context, the government must take measures to ensure that the Tamils of the north-east do not suffer any more.
