Tamil Nadu politicians have condemned the failure of the central government of India to dispatch food aids and other essential commodities collected in Tamil Nadu to the Jaffna peninsula.
Following this delay and hesitation of the central government, Pala Nedumaran took steps to bring the food aid by boats despite the ban. But the Indian police thwarted the move by arresting him and his supporters.
Later he undertook a fast demanding the dispatch of the food aid to the peninsula. Finally, he gave it up following the assurance by the Tami Nadu Chief Minister Dr. Karunanithy that he would take necessary steps. Dr.Ramadas, the convener of the Pattali Makkal Katchie, also gave a similar assurance.
Now the expectation is what action the Tamil Nadu government will take in order to ensure the dispatch of the food items and the essential commodities. Both the DMK and the Pattaly Makkal Katche are allies of the Central government of India. It cannot be expected that these two leaders can function against the decisions of the central government in dispatching the food aid.
However Nedu Maran’s agitation is an index of the conscience of the Tamil Nadu people. It was a demonstration that demonstrated the support and the solidarity of the Tamil Nadu people in alleviating the humanitarian problems of the Lankan Tamils.
The manner in which the Lankan Tamil problem is handled by the central government has certainly irked the conscience of the Tamil Nadu people.
