Whenever there are clashes, innocent Tami civilians lose their lives. There is no concern shown for the loss of the lives of the innocent civilians. In fact, the victims are branded as terrorists.
Nobody seems to consider whether innocent civilians are killed during the clashes or war. There is no concern shown as to how the protection of innocent civilians can be ensured during such confrontations.
There are no efforts to ascertain the plight of the victims’ families. There are no efforts to provide relief or compensation to the families of the victims. Meanwhile, there are abductions, disappearances and killings, which cause serious worry among the Tami people in the north east.
R.Sampanthan, TNA Parliamentary Group Leader, made a demand on the floor of the House a few days ago demanding the appointment of an independent, impartial inquiry comprising retired judges and chaired by a Muslim to probe the killings of 300 innocent civilians during the war in the east.
Mr.Sammapnthan even tabled a report containing the names of 300 Tamil civilians killed during the war in the east. He contradicted the statement made by Minister Susantha Punchinilama, who earlier stated that nobody except two Sinhalese was killed during the confrontations.
There have been air strikes in the north east where even children are killed and on such occasions racists and racist media attempt to brand the victims as terrorist.
The government must give up such inhuman trends and respond positively to the request made by TNA Leader Sampanthan and appoint the Commission of Inquiry to ascertain the truth.
