It happened on Tuesday evening when the SL Navy vessels dared taunt the Sea Tigers at training off Nagarkovil area. The attack vessels of the Sea Tigers rushed to the spot when the Dvora Gunboats belonging to SL navy dared attacking the Tigers at training in their coastal waters.

Tigers gave chase to the intruders and as they hurriedly retreated towards the base, the first govt Dvora was sunk at 5.30pm.

The second Dvora caught fire off the coastal village of Inparutty and soon rested at its watery grave.

BEFORE IT DROWNED, THE TIGERS HAD GONE ON BOARD AND RETRIEVED A NUMBER OF NAVY GUNS. ( 1 23mm Cannon; 5 PK-LMGs; 4 - Fifty Calibre guns; 1 grenade launcher )

The battle ensued till the third Dvora got dented and the SL navy had to completely withdraw TOWING the damaged gunboat.

All sea Tigers (but 5 killed in battle), led by Deputy Commander, Cheliyan returned to base with all their attack-boats. However, the Sri Lanka Military Authorities had their version to deliver to please the ears of the Southern politicians. First they said there were 16 Tiger boats involved and the Navy was able to wipe out eight.

As soon as news about the Dvora boats arrived the Military spokesman said the SL Navy was successful in demolishing 22 Tiger boats and killing many.
