The new Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, Mr Bodalagama lacks both the subtlety and ability of Lakshman Kadirgamar, another indication of the new President’s inability to find anyone of any talent to support his moribund government.
The Foreign Minister's pathetic efforts to convince the IC and us that the government is taking giant steps to achieve peace is too obviously dubious to convince even the most idiotic among us that his assertions convince even him. HIs Machiavellian effort to turn a bad situation to his advantage is proving pointless. It is time he revised his strategies before he gets fired by an equally incompetent President, governed as he is by his unique sense of morality. It is time that the President’s major shortcoming did him in. He is like a criminal who preys on criminals rather than law abiding citizens to survive.
The President and his Foreign Minister must realize that time runs only in one direction and does so in an irritatingly orderly procession, unprotected from future horrors fired by blinded vision.
We on the other hand cannot afford to lie still in the softness of our isolation. We cannot let the truth be washed clean by highly flavored exaggerations. We cannot in any way diminish our need to keep exposing the hideous prevailing details to everyone around. Brian Seniviratne has prepared DVD’s, others make audio's and yet others write, but all of us must make a maximum effort to distribute these valiant efforts to as many as matter as possible
Everyone of our news media must not hide behind the fact that current affairs are never one dimensional and not let a seemingly appealing story by the government quashing the LTTE as heartless terrorists stand in the way of the truth. The government’s struggling effort to deny the freedom struggle is driven with exaggerated care and is echoed with such frequency as to convince them that the world would believe them. They do all in their power to deny their explosive tendency toward brutality by capitalizing on Kadirgamar’s callously bold measure to have the LTTE declared a Terrorist organization.
The Sinhalese leadership ignore the fact that hostility energized them. They cannot bring themselves to recognize that they believe that others had no rights on what they dared to regard as their exclusive turf. They ignore the the fact that their anger once unleashed was addictive and the high while bitter, was irresistible. They deny that their reputation for violence was legendary. They cannot hide behind the fact that whatever they did, they always got what they wanted. There was a time when non violence was our response, it had a chilling effect as we watched and waited and did not retaliate. They failed to realize that once a murder was committed, they all became hostages of one another. They could not acknowledge that they suffered from a disease where everything is forgotten but a grudge. They believed above all that the human mind could justify anything.
It is these, their multiple weaknesses that the world must be made aware of, while Bodallagama runs around the globe rattling the jargon which has been flushed down the toilet bowl decades ago.
