Sri Lanka: Ã¢â‚¬Å“Chandrika white-washing her past crimes with liesÃ¢â‚¬Â says media report

After UNICEF abandoned plans to recruit her she is trying to present her in a good light to the local media, the report said. The report said that Chandrika was the cause for the numerous atrocities committed during her tenure as president when abductions, killings and human rights violations were rampant in the country.

The Ravaya editor and the former president’s political critic Victor Ivan had pointed out that Chandrika Kumaratunga’s goons were responsible for the killing of Kumar Ponnambalam, the head of the All-Ceylon Tamil Congress. Commenting on this a political analyst said that it has become a norm among the Sri Lankan leaders to play innocent for the crimes committed on their orders.

Saying that during her rule only one or two abductions took place and the perpetrators were brought to justice is an attempt to cover-up the horrendous crimes committed by her when she was the commander in chief of the Sri Lankan military, he added.
