The All Party Representative Committee, which is at the centre of a controversy, seems will not meet again until the party leaders sort out their differences, meanwhile The APRC last met on August 23 rd to discuss core issues, according to Colombo medias . However, the meeting ended without any decision as like the earlier ones.
This time the meeting was interrupted by monk minister who stamped as leading chauvinistic worker against Tamils Champika Ranawaka’s verbal assaults on APRC Chairman, Science and Technology Minister Prof. Tissa Vitharana.
The derogatory remarks made against the COPE chairman by Ranawaka also led to Prof. Vitharana threatening to quit the APRC.As the party leaders have not been able to iron out their differences over the core issues, the scheduled meeting of APRC will ao not be held tomorrow Speaking to the media Prof. Vitharana admitted that the APRC will not meet until the party leaders agreed on the core issues.
According to inside sources there is an attempt by the Singala chavunistic parties Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) and the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) to scuttle the process.Sources said these parties were planning to mount pressure on the APRC chairman to start discussing matters from the beginning. Already the APRC has conducted about 40 meetings but there were any useful measures taken in the committees meetings regarding the ethnic issue Tamil National Alliance (TNA) sources meanwhile expressed disappointment over the near collapse of the APRC and said they do not expect miracles from the APRC.
