Sri Lanka: Youth surrenders at HRC escaping an abduction attempt

After escaping an abduction attempt on Monday, a 19-year old youth from Uduppiddi in Vadamaraadchy surrendered at the Human Rights Commission office in Jaffna. In a complaint the youth said armed men in a white van attempted to abduct him on Monday, sources in Jaffna said.
The youth from Mandaan in Karanavaai East, Uduppiddi was taken for questioning by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers last week and ordered to report at the Udupiddi SLA camp every day.
The youth rushed to HRC Jaffna office to seek protection immediately after escaping an abduction attempt on Monday morning.
