Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian for Trincomalee district, K. Thurairatnasingham, on Tuesday accused the Sri Lankan government of forcing internally displaced people (IDPs) from Moothoor and Champoor to resettle in other areas.
Talking to newsmen he said the government is carrying out its resettlement activities in an ill co-ordinated way and very hurriedly and for which many problems of the IDPs are yet to be solved.
The MP said forcing IDPs to resettle against their will in areas not suitable for settlement is violation of human rights.
The MP criticised the Colombo government for advancing with a plan to declare Moothoor and Champoor as High Security Zones (HSZ) and to create Sinhala colonizations in these areas.
Mr.Thurairatnasingham said that the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) is forcing civilians, displaced by SL military offensives, to resettle in Iraalkuzhi village located north of Moothoor and also in Thangkuveali, located 9 k.m. from Kiliveddi.
He said when the water from Mahaweli river rises and starts flowing through Thangkuveali, people do not settle in the low-lands there.
