Sri Lanka: Media people demonstrate in Colombo

The ralliers accused the Sri Lankan forces of harassing the journalist who expose the wrongdoings of the Sri Lankan authorities to the public. The protest was organized by the Sri Lanka Working Journalists Association, Sri Lanka Tamil Journalists Alliance, Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum, Federation of Media Employees Trade Unions and the Free Media Movement.The demonstration started at 12.30pm and lasted until 1.30pm Thursday.
A campaign for media freedom and to ensure Sunday Times defence columnist Iqbal Athas’s right to report and right to life, is one of the demands of the demonstrators.The demonstrators also demanded the journalists’ right to investigate acts of corruption in the country.
