Sri Lanka: Media watchdog urges European and American embassies to save Athas

thumb_235after a column he wrote exposing corruptions in a defence deal. Reporters sans frontiers in a press release issued on Wednesday urged European and US Embassies to take their utmost effort to save the life of Iqbal Athas.

The release said that Mr. Athas is targeted by some government ministers and sections of the military and urged the Sri Lankan president to expedite the restoration of security to the columnist.

"President Mahinda Rajapakse and his brother, Gothabaya Rajapakse, will be held personally responsible by the journalist community for anything that happens to Iqbal Athas” the release said.
