Hundreds of Muslim farmers in Kinniya division in Trincomalee district are being barred from cultivating their nearly four thousand hectares of paddy fields in Theeneri and Kandalkaadu. Farmers said Sri Lankan Army (SLA) soldiers are denying their access to their farmland after these areas recently came under the control of the Sri Lankan Army.

Trincomalee District Muslim Peace Council (TDMPC) has requested the SLA to let farmers cultivate their paddy fields immediately.

TDMPC said the farmers are already economically severely affected and their condition will worsen further if restrictions on their cultivation are not lifted soon.
