thumb_246This move by the Sri Lankan military comes in the wake of the announcement by them, that all the civilians above the age of ten should obtain special identity card. The Sri Lankan military has been collecting information and details of almost all the aspects of the civilian life in Jaffna in recent times.

The military has colleted and still collecting details of motor vehicles, bicycles used in the Jaffna peninsula. The civilian population in the area above the age of ten were forced to obtain the military special identity card within two weeks. Now the military has began collecting details of mobile phones and their users in the peninsula.

The local governance mechanism in the area was forced by the Sri Lankan military to collect the details from the civilians. The successive data collections by the military in Jaffna have caused panic and anxiety among the population who are cut off from the rest of the island by the Sri Lankan military restrictions.
