thumb_260The Sri Lankan forces have been engaging in continuous artillery attack on the civilian settlements in the district in recent times. The Sri Lankan artillery fire on Aandaankulam village in Mannar district on Monday claimed the life of a father of one child Sellathurai Yohan age 34 and severely wounded a S. Yohanathan age 37 father of two children.

The injured was first admitted to the Pallamadu rural dispensary and later transferred to Killinochchi general hospital for further treatment. He is in a critical condition.

Two civilian houses were completely damaged in the Sri Lankan artillery fire. The shells were falling in the civilian settlements of Karukkaikulam, Vaddakandal, Karungkandal, Sornapuri, Iththikkandal, Aadkaaddiveli and Kumanaalankulam villages.

Due to this incessant artillery bombardment the civilians are displacing to safer areas, in vehicles and even on foot.

The civilian habitats facing complete destruction especially the settlements in Aandankulam and Vannankulam suffered much of the damage. The Adamban hospital in Mannar has already been badly damaged by the continuous shelling by the Sri Lankan forces in the past few days.
