Sri Lanka: Sinhala miscreants torch 12 Muslim houses in Akkaraippattu

A group of Sinhala miscreants numbering around 10 set fire to 12 Muslim houses in Ashraff town in Akkaraippattu police division in Amparai district on Monday evening, causing extensive damage to the families.
Local people said the Sinhala miscreants equipped with sharp weapons entered the area through the borders of Oluvil, and Pallakkaadu around 6.15 p.m. They went to the Muslim area and chased local residents. At one stage, they set fire to the houses and fled the scene immediately.
Within a moment many houses burnt into ashes in fires, rendering many people homeless and who are now seeking various kinds of help including shelter from the local NGOs.
A tense situation is prevailing in Ashraff town since the incident and the victims are passing every moment amid fear that they may be attacked again by the Sinhala miscreants.
The attackers had threatened the residents that the area was the Holy Land of Sinhalese and they will allow none to live in the area. Police had started investigation into the incident but none was arrest so far, Akkaraippattu police sources said.
