The regulation was passed with a majority of 76 votes. Eighty eight MPs including the Marxist People’s Liberation Front voted for the proposal while 12 MPs of the Tamil National Alliance voted against it. Major opposition United National Party (UNP) abstained from voting.
The Amnesty international in its report on Tuesday has singled out the Sri Lankan Emergency regulations as a catalyst to Human rights violations in the country and called for the renunciation of it. But the Sri Lankan parliament continues to pass the notorious regulations to cause sufferings to the Tamil Community.
