Sri Lanka: Rights group urge Sri Lankan government to ratify UN convention on disappeared

thumb_276To ratify the UN convention for protection of all persons from enforced disappearances. The association urged the Sri Lankan government to ratify the UN convention on disappeared to demonstrate its commitment towards upholding human rights in the country. “Enforced disappearances are not even classified as a crime under the Sri Lankan law so it is impossible to take appropriate legal action,” said Mr. Shantha Pathirana of the Association. Mr. Pathirana, said that ratifying the UN convention would symbolise the government’s commitment to protecting the lives of its citizens.
