Sri Lanka: Cease military operation, present a political solution, Delhi tells Colombo

According to New Delhi sources, India has advised Lankan government not to pursue military operations to capture the north but to present a political package to resolve the national ethnic problem.
According to the sources this was conveyed to Defence Secretary Gothapaya Rajapakse, Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapakse and President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratungua, when they visited India last Sunday.
They had met Indian Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh, Defence Advisor M.K.Narayan and several other senior officials. Alok Prashad, India’s High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, was also present at these discussions.
