In two separate incidents, one young woman and one youth were shot dead in Jaffna on Thursday. Police said two unknown armed men on motor cycle shot dead a young woman at about 9:15 a.m, at Palaali road in Thirunelveali, with the High Security Zone (HSZ) of Sri Lanka Army (SLA).
The young woman has been identified as Rajasingham Subajini, 30, a resident of Naavaanthurai in Jaffna. Subajini was riding on her bicycle towards Nalloor temple along Palaali road when the gunmen shot her. After killing her, the unknown men fled the scene immediately.
Another incident took place around 9 a.m. in front of Jaffna University Medical Faculty in which armed men on motor cycle shot one youth to death. The attack also left his one friend injured.
Both the youth, identified as Rajendram Satheeshkumar, 23, and his friend, T. Vignesawaran, 29, are from Kokkuvil East in Jaffna. At the time of being attacked Satheeskumar and his two friends were riding bicycles and the armed men sprayed bullets on all three of them.
The seriously injured Vigneswaran was rushed to Jaffna Teaching hospital while the third friend sustained minor injuries, police said.
Meanwhile, Koappaay police recovered the body of an elderly man, identified as Kanthan Rathinam, 54, who was hacked to death on Wednesday night. His body was found in Koandaavil east.
Police recovered the three bodies and handed them over to Jaffna Teaching Hospital on Thursday evening for post mortem examinations.
