"Learning from mistakes is easier said than done," says political analyst DJ Jayraj commenting on the latest Indo-Lanka Pact reported by the Hindustan Times today. According to reports Sri Lanka and India have agreed to set up a high level defense committee to further Sri Lanka's war against the Tamils.
The new agreement will see increased Indian naval presence in the Bay of Bengal, analysts say. The last time an Indo-Lanka Pact was signed; Indian land forces were diploid on the island.
More than 1200 of them were later killed with weapons bought and provided by the government of Sri Lanka.
DJ Jayraj says that "India simply hasn't learnt from her mistakes".
"The likes of Defence Secretary Shri Vijay Singh, External Affairs Secretary Shivshankar Menon and National Security Advisor M.K. Narayanan are thoroughbred politicians with the same gold-fish memory that comes with the profession," he added.
